Rome–Fiumicino International Airport "Leonardo da Vinci" is one of the three main airports of the country. It is located in the territory of Fiumicino, 32 kilometers from the capital of Italy. The airfield was opened in 1960 because it was necessary to decongest Rome‒Ciampino International Airport "G. B. Pastine". The air terminal services about 40 million passengers every year. It handles domestic, international and intercontinental flights. The airport encompasses 4 runways and the following terminals: T1, T2, T3, and T5.
The air terminal is linked to Rome by A91 motorway. Buses (Cotral, Sit bus shuttle, Terravison, and Atr-Schiaffini) depart from the station opposite T1 or from the exits from T3. Moreover, the airport is served by the Leonardo Express train service. Trenitalia high-speed trains connect the airport to the capital. Such car sharing service operators as Car2Go, Enjoy and Aldus Corporation provide their services to passengers of the airport. There are official taxi services at the airport (white vehicles). The taxi ranks are found near T1 and T3. Besides, one can use the services of private drivers.
The airport features a wide range of vehicle rental companies. The offices are positioned in the parking facilities and are connected to the terminals by walkways and tunnels. Such companies as Autovia (level 4), Europcar (level 3), Goldcar (level 4), Sixt (level 4), and Win rent (level 3) are situated in car park B. The following companies are placed in car park C: Locauto, National, Enterprise, Alamo (level 3), RENT4U (level 4), Sicily by car autoeuropa (level 4), Avis, Budget (level 2), Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty (level 1), FireFly (level 1), and Maggiore (level 2). Rental vehicles are collected from and returned to the multi-level car park of P-Terminals.
Young drivers (under 25 years of age) will have to pay a higher car rental charge. All the supplementary equipment is paid separately. There is a charge for introducing the second driver into the rental agreement, which is not included in the rental cost. If the customer is going to cross the border, he or she will be required to pay an additional insurance (the list of countries should be checked with the car rental operator).
At the airport, passengers may rent a car with a driver (the abbreviation for this service used on signs is NCC). The cars that provide the given service are grey or blue. So as to take advantage of this service, one should book it in advance. The given service is offered by Coopairport, Futurancc and Limousine Uara.
