First mentions of Fez belong to the 8th century. This is one of the oldest and largest imperial cities. Main entrance gate of Old Medina is a symbolic architectural monument. It conventionally divides the city into two parts - the old and the new one. The gorgeous gate is part of the remaining fortification walls, that were built to protect the city as early as the 11th century.
