Culture of Budva. Places to visit - old town, temples, theaters, museums and palaces
Budva is an ancient city with rich history. Simply every attraction here is connected with many interesting stories and legends. While walking through the picturesque narrow streets of the city, visitors will surely see old churches, beautiful squares and gorgeous mansions that never cease to surprise visitors with their luxury. Among the religious attractions of the city we simply cannot fail to recommend visiting the ruins of the ancient basilica built in the 5th century. Despite the fact that the building has been almost completely destroyed, its territory still keeps skillful mosaic, the age of which is more than a thousand and a half years.

You can feel the remarkable atmosphere in the Stare Miasto region, where is represented the largest number of landmarks of the city. Here you will find the ruins of the necropolis of Ancient Rome, the famous monument to the ballerina, interesting churches (St. Sava’s church, St. Ivan’s Cathedral), as well as museums, restaurants, and cafes, where you can sit and enjoy the view of the Old City. The area is surrounded by defensive walls, and walking along it will give you pleasure, as you can feel nothing but an unsurpassed touch to history. There is a completely unusual monument in the city – the oldest olive tree. This natural attraction is over 2,000 years old, and the place has become the favorite spot for lovers of history.
It is interesting to walk through the tunnel between Budva and Becici. You do not get to pass by it as this is the only road along the coast. The tunnel is decorated with drawings on its walls, posters with information about the city and its history (sometimes they are more informative than information stands in museums), and the views that open to the gaze of the beholder fascinates even the most hardened skeptic. You should definitely take a cruise to the island of St. Nicholas. This island is huge, and its main attractions have long been the magnificent beaches (there are four of them), along which it will be useful to take a walk. There is a church located on the island, whose views (you cannot enter inside) and wonderful natural sights (rocks) you can enjoy.
Yet another interesting religious monument is the Podmaine Monastery, located on the northern edge of the city. It is very calm here, the area is well-groomed, and the monastery is also famous for its fascinating history. It was a defensive type temple built in the 15th century. The walls of the monastery are decorated with frescoes, and the services that are held here will remain forever in the memory of every visitor. Another remarkable monastery is located on the eastern edge of the city. This is about the Rustovo Monastery. Despite the fact that the place cannot boast of a rich history (it was founded only in 2003), there is something to look at here, and the peaceful atmosphere only adds a charm to the place. It is a very beautiful monastery and that is what attracts tourists to it.
