Great Blue Hole

From the series “The Most Mysterious Geological Formations on the Planet”
You can look for unique geological formations not only on the ground, but also underwater. One of the mysteries of the planet - Great Blue Hole - is located in the Atlantic Ocean, in the heart of the Belize Barrier Reef. You could fully appreciate the beauty of huge underwater caves only from bird's-eye view. Due to a sharp difference in the depth, water abruptly changes its color from sky blue to dark blue. Thus, this natural phenomenon looks very impressive.
The cave is close to ideal circular shape that enhances its spectacular appearance. At first glance, it may seem that the depth of the cave is incredibly high. In fact, it barely exceeds 100 meters, while diameter of the cave is about 300 meters. As scientists found out, the cave has formed more than 200 million years ago, during the Ice Age.
Once there have been limestone caves on that place, but when the ice began to melt, they were washed away and formed a huge bowl of rounded shape. The pioneer in this unique underwater cave was a world renowned explorer, Jacques Cousteau. He is also the author of the emergence theory mentioned above. After a large-scale study, held in 1972 by Cousteau team, the Great Blue Hole has become a center of attraction for divers from around the world. Life on the surface of underwater caves is amazing and incredibly diverse, while its bottom remains deserted. ... Complete sights collection

Ambergris Caye

From the series “The Most Beautiful Islands on the Planet”
The Ambergis Island, situated in the Caribbean Sea, is characterized by the impressive size and diversity of the snow-white sandy beaches. Ambergis is the largest and most popular among the more than 200 islands of Belize. The island stretch is about 40 km, and the maximum width is 1.6 km. Despite the developed infrastructure, the island has preserved the splendor of untouched nature. All the tourists can walk through the picturesque mangrove forests and graze along the tropical palm trees and relax in their shadows on a magical beach.
One of the main reasons for the popularity of this island among tourists is its proximity to the Barrier Island of Belize, the second largest barrier on the planet. Most of the travelers who visit the island are the divers, the underwater hunters and the fishermen. The island offers the excellent conditions for these entertainments.
Another unique feature of the island is the limestone cave, whose research has revealed many archaeological artefacts. According to one of the versions, the Mayan Indians used these caves for sacred rituals. Hundreds of excellent hiking trails are available to hikers. The friends of nature can graze each day on the exotic plants and the picturesque scrubs can find hidden waterfalls. The most popular health resort on the island is the small town of San Pedro, on the territory of which are the incredibly beautiful beaches and a lot of cozy restaurants, where you can taste the delicious sea food dishes. ... The area, where the waterfall is located, is unique from a botanical point of view. Mountains surrounding the falls are covered with pine trees.
