Bangkok is the most popular tourist city in the world. Unfortunately, it is also in a list of cities that are in danger from the flooding. The main reason of the sagging soils is an active use of the underground waters. For last decades the number of them has decreased and that lead to the ground slump. The last catastrophe has happened in the coastal region in 2011. The tropical shower has flooded several large districts and took a lot of people’s lives.
Tropic cyclones became a usual thing for locals. Every year the city goes under the ground for about 5 cm. Taking in to account the population of the city, which is about 5,5 million people, it is hard to imagine the scale of the water catastrophe. Researchers say that some Bangkok’s districts can be completely flooded and inhabited to 2030.
The ground slumps are active thanks to the development of the tourism sphere. On the territory of the city were built a lot of high houses which are very heavy for the ground. The ice melting on poles also influence on the present situation. The magazine "Geophysical Research Letters" had an article, where there were explained the danger of the ice melting. First of all, this is crucial for equator states and islands. Superfluous water from the poles congregates near the equator due to the Earth’s gravity field.
