Uluru Rock, Australia

From series “10 Natural Wonders of the World”
Australia also has natural attractions that deserve an attention of the most experienced and demanding tourists. Among them there is the legendary Uluru rock that has gained a worldwide recognition thanks to its bright orange color and an unusual oval shape. The rock was formed about 680 million years ago. It is located in the vast desert of Central Australia. It consists of red sandstone that has the ability to change color depending on the time of day. If you look at the rock at the sunrise, it has a light orange color. By noon, it becomes purple and red.

Uluru Rock, Australia The English explorer William Gosse is considered to be the pathfinder of the amazing cliff. The scientist first described the formation during a trip to the desert in 1873. For local residents, Uluru rock has been the object of worship since ancient times. People believed that the communication with the mountain gives power to a person. The rock became popular among tourists in the middle of the 20th century. As many years ago, today it attracts mainly mountain climbers. According to statistics, about half a million people climb the structure each year.

It’s also worth noting that Uluru rock is an important archaeological site. It has several caves, where scientists have found fragments of ancient paintings. Thousands of years ago, the rock served as a safe haven for the natives. Next to it there was a drinking water source. Currently, one of the most unique natural attractions of the world belongs to the local Anangu tribe, whose members did not hinder the development of tourism in the region. The natural monument is rented to the authorities of Australia for 99 years. To the beginning - Cenote Ik Kil Well
