In the everlasting festive city is located the most futuristic church called Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião. The building was constructed in the year 1979 in honor of the patron Saint of Rio St. Sebastian, in the style of modernism. When it comes to appearance, the cathedral is similar to ziggurat and Edgar Fonseca was the architect. The idea behind it was to create a building that would be modern, and resembled the Mayan pyramid – and I must say, it really happened. Speaking of other more traditional cathedrals, it is worth noting the rich decoration of Igreja São José. The church is built in the Baroque style, embodying all the splendor and grandiosity of style.

It is impossible to imagine an acquaintance with the hometown of Paolo Coelho without visiting one of its symbols – the Maracanã stadium. At some point in time, it was noted as the largest stadium in the world. Today, this place is rightfully occupied by the “May Day Stadium” in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The stadium can take up to 76,000 people at a time. Near the building there is a museum among whose exhibits you will find personal belongings of great football players. A very colorful place can be found in the east of the district of Santa Teresa. This is about Escadaria Selarón – the staircase decorated with different pieces of tile, and all this is thanks to the efforts of one person – Jorge Célaron. Later, tourists joined in on his “movement”, when they began to bring tiles with the image of their native country. This is a place of gathering of creative youth.
