A very peculiar place is the sanctuary Ise-jingū, which is located in Japan, in the city Ise. It is the most important Shinto temple in the country, founded more than 2,000 years ago. The road to the main temple of Japan is quite complicated. The tiny town of Ise is very far from the big cities and is located about 300 km from the capital.
The patient traveler, who still travels the difficult road to the town, is allowed to enter the temple terrarium, because the temple is closed. For several thousand years, only the imperial family and the clergy may enter the temple. For ordinary people, Ise-jingu remains closed. The only thing the tourists can do - to admire the unique sanctuary from afar.
The temple looks rather modest. It was built of wood and decorated with no unique decor elements. The temple is located on the territory of the picturesque national park Ise-sima, which is open to the public, in contrast to the sanctuary. In the National Park you can see a lot of the unique historical objects, the magnificent local nature and the rare plants admire. The Shinto followers consider this area to be sacred. The numerous pilgrimage trails have been laid out on the park grounds since time immemorial.
