You can see the ancient Huma Temple in India. It is located in the vicinity of the village of the same name. This miniature temple impresses travelers not so much with its architectural features as with its disastrous leaning. It seems that the temple is going to collapse right now. Its top remains perpendicular to the ground despite the huge leaning of the building. This ancient temple is dedicated to the God Shiva. The exact date of its construction is unknown.
The first official mention of the building dates back to the end of the 17th century. Its first complete reconstruction was ordered by King Baliar Singh at this time. The temple is located in a very complex geological area. It was built right on the rocks on the bank of the Mahanadi River. Many coastal areas are heavily flooded every year during the flood of the river. Also, the constant movement of rocks could provoke the temple to tilt. Several other ancient buildings are located next to the Huma Temple. Most of them also have a large leaning today.
It is noteworthy that all these buildings tilt in a strictly defined direction. The temple of Huma is the only building that tilts in the opposite direction. Some experts believe that numerous geological and archaeological studies could have contributed to a serious leaning of the temple from the vertical axis. They have been held in this area for the last 50 years. The most interesting time to visit a historical landmark in India is in March. A traditional village fair is held near the temple during this period.
