It’s convenient to travel around the island by car. Local drivers differ with strict observance of traffic rules, so roads are pretty safe. It is also worth considering that while driving pedestrians crossing the road has to be taken into account, as they may appear at any place.
Phone booths, from which you can call anywhere in the world, are widespread. They accept special plastic cards or coins. Calls from phone near the hotel or directly from the hotel would be the most expensive.
Buses on the island are cruising from early morning till late at night. You can get by bus literally to every town and village. Locals are very responsive, so it’s always possible to beg for help and ask how to get to the object of interest. If the attraction is in walking distance, it’s quite possible that local residents will offer to show the way and help to get to the desired object.
It’s better to go shopping with local currency only; you have to have a sufficient amount of small value bills with you. Sellers in small souvenir shops and private stores mayn’t have change for a bill with big face value, and are reluctant to accept it because of the large number of fakes.
Vacationers are sure to remain vigilant in crowded places, as it is likely to become a victim of pickpockets. Going for a walk, don’t wear valuable jewelry and take documents and large sums of cash with you.
