St. Dominic church is a real pearl of the city. The first mention of it dates back to the 13th century. The exact date of the foundation of the church is unknown. Well, one theory is, it was built in 1217 by the Dominicans, who founded their own monastery in this place. Many fine old pieces have been preserved in the miniature church. A beautiful baroque altar, wall paintings and medieval crucifixes created in Gothic style are among them.
The Cathedral of Saint Douilly is a very unusual monument of architecture. It has been erected on the ruins of ancient Roman buildings and represents a beautiful creation in a Byzantine style. It maintains many ancient design elements. Its altar was made during the 15th century. A part of the cathedral is occupied by an interesting historical museum nowadays. Among its exhibits are ancient breast crosses, military relics and unique manuscripts.
Lovers of unusual tours should not ignore Ivan Meštrović studio museum. The famous Italian sculptor used to live in this historic building. It was there that he had his workshop. Nowadays, you can see his most remarkable masterpieces among other exhibits. The exposition is also supplemented with other Croatian sculptors and artists' works of art. Of particular value is a collection of large sculptures made of bronze, stone, and wood.
