Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is located in the west of Scotland and handles the region. It’s situated 2 kilometres away from the city of Prestwick. The airport can handle 2.5 million people a year, which makes it the fifth busiest airport terminal in Scotland. The airport was opened in 1934 as a training facility. In 1938, it started to handle passengers. There are two runways and one passenger terminal. Prestwick arranges not only regular and commercial flights but also training flights for pilots. The air force uses the airport for maintenance. Favourable weather conditions (no fog) let the airport handle some of the flights forwarded from other airports and make it a strategic site.
The airport is connected to Glasgow by Bus Route 77. Official taxi providers (Streamline) can be found on the parking lot in front of the terminal. There’s a railway station at the airport which is connected to the terminal by a roofed pedestrian crossing. By train, you can reach Glasgow Central Station and other settlements.
The international company called Avis offers car rental at Prestwick Airport. The company’s information stand is placed in the arrivals lounge of the passenger terminal. To book in advance, you can use a phone number and a company website mentioned on the airport website. The company offers vehicles of a different class: from compact to comfortable cars, from sports cars to vans and minibuses. The company also has hybrid and eco-friendly cars.
To get to the car rental company’s stand, you should leave the baggage reclaim area. The Avis customer service office is near the McIntyres cafe.
There are two more companies offering their services at the airport - Budget and Rentalcars. The companies’ stands are situated in the airport terminal. Rental cars are taken and returned on the parking lot near the terminal.
Arnold Clarc, a car rental company, offers their clients free transfer to the place where a contract is signed and a car is received. The transfer is performed from the main passenger terminal.
