Glasgow International Airport is situated 16 kilometres away from the city centre in Scotland. The airport is the second busiest airport in Scotland handling about 10 million people a year. GLA Airport was opened in 1966 and mainly operated domestic flights and several European flights. Nowadays the airport arranges flights to different parts of the world. There’s one runway at the airport. The main passenger terminal is divided into three piers: the West Pier, Central Pier, and East Pier. There’s a small Terminal 2 near the main one. Royal Air Force flying training is performed on the aerodrome.
You can drive from Glasgow to the airport using the M8 motorway. There are also buses (routes 500, 77) from the airport terminal to the city centre. The airport express bus delivers passengers to the city centre (Central Station) in 15 minutes. The express passes several city hotels. There’s no train station at the airport. There’s an official company at the airport offering taxi services.
There are the following car rental companies: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt. Information stands for customers are located in the domestic flight arrivals lounge. The company’s offices dealing with contracts are situated in the Car Rental Centre which is open 24/7. The companies offer different types of vehicles - from compact cars to family and off-road vehicles. When a car is booked in advance, some companies - Alamo, National, Budget - offer a 10 to 20% discount on their services.
To get to the car rental centre, you need to exit the baggage reclaim area, turn left towards the centre (opposite the Glasgow Airport Business Centre). A car can be taken from parking lots next to the Rental Centre.
The Europcar customer service office is situated on St Andrew’s Dr. It’s open from 6.30 am to 11 pm. The Thrifty office is situated on St Andrew’s Dr West opposite Parking P1.
Rental cars should be returned to a special parking lot near Garage P2.
