Darmstadt is rich in historical, architectural and natural attractions, offering its guests an excellent excursion program. Luisenplatz is considered the center of the city, and it is from here that most of the tours begin. Around the square, you can see a lot of interesting historical sites as well as romantic couples leisurely walking here until late evening. A few steps away from the center is the Ducal Palace, the most famous architectural landmark of Darmstadt. For a long time, it had been the residence of a noble family of the counts of Hesse-Darmstadt. The building is striking with its scale and sumptuous interior decoration.
In the vicinity of the city, one can discover an equally significant architectural monument - the Frankenstein Castle whose construction was completed in the first half of the 17th century. It is also distinguished by original architectural shapes; the castle is surrounded by a spacious park area. Among religious monuments, the most remarkable one is the Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalene, which was erected at the behest of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II in the late 19th century. The church contains a lot of unique relics, ancient icons, and artifacts, which were donated to the church immediately after its opening. The church has miraculously survived to this day in its original form. Today, visitors to the temple can admire skillful mosaics and wall paintings.
