Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is a small regional airport located on the Toronto Islands. The Canadian airport got its modern name in honour of Billy Bishop, the air vice-marshal of World War II. The construction of the airport was completed in 1939. It was built on the site where a baseball stadium and residential areas had used to be placed. The airport served as an Air Force Base during the war. The airport is used by civil aviation and air ambulances. Besides, it serves regional airs carriers, handles charter flights and private aircraft, and provides emergency response services. The air terminal comprises 2 runways (one is shorter) and one passenger terminal. Due to the noise restriction policy, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport does not service jets. The airport is open from 6.45 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the same reason. The airport is capable of servicing 2.8 million passengers a year.
