The volcanic crater Xico has named one of the most distant and picturesque districts of Mexico. The history of 'the formation' of this crater is very interesting. It formed several thousand years ago, after the strong eruption of a volcano, and remained hidden for centuries under the waters of the calm Chalko Lake. At the beginning of the 14th century, the lake began to dry out because of the climate change. As early as the nineteenth century, the government had decided to dry the lake completely and to set up the farms in its place.
Today, territory surrounded by the crater ring is completely dedicated to fields and plantations. The local farmers breed the different crops on the fertile volcanic soil. In a few years the numerous houses were built near the crater. Today the population of the district reaches 300,000 people.
Xico crater is one of the most accessible and interesting from the tourist point of view. The rural tourist district can reach tourists from Mexico and the surrounding cities. Xico is a remarkable natural sight, located near the hectic metropolis. Behind the edge of the crater lies the wonderfully beautiful landscape with huge fields and the numerous trees, in the shadow of which you can relax on the glorious day.
