Wroclaw is a historical city as you can find it's name in historical documents dated 1000 AD. So the city is a good place worth visiting it for it's masterpieces of medieval architecture. Ostrów Tumski (cathedral island) is the oldest part of Wroclaw, where a lot of splendid cathedrals are located. Wroclaw Cathedral is the most beautiful and famous architecture building on this island. Many people would say without hesitation that Wroclaw Town hall is one of the most outstanding Gothic buildings in Europe. The building of Wroclaw University, seen from the Pomeranian Bridge (Most Pomorski) spanning the Oder River, is also a bright example of baroque architecture, preserved from the 16th century. The city is located on the banks of the Oder River and has lots of canals, islands and bridges, which make the city even more beautiful. The greatest among the bridges are Grunwaldzki bridge and Millennium bridge.
But stunning architecture is not the only thing that makes Wroclaw attractive for tourists. The city is drowning in the great amount of beautiful parks and gardens. Walking in the central part of the city you have to visit the Szczytnicki Park, and enjoy over 370 species of trees and shrubs and a Japanese garden. The Botanical Garden with its marvelous flowers and gardens, and the Zoological Garden, founded in 1865 are also great places to visit to communicate with the nature.
The city of Wroclaw is a cultural centre, famous for its theatres, including the Opera, Musical Theatre and Philharmonic Hall. Cultural life of the city is rich with different events, provided by numerous various clubs, museums and galleries. Wroclaw is a home city for international musical festivals.
