Summer remains the most preferred leisure time on the island; that’s because of the grand festival held here during three summer months. The main part of the cultural and entertainment event is held in the capital of the island, Hvar. Every day there are concerts and theatrical performances; folklore ensembles take active part in the event. The Summer Festival is a wonderful way to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of local people. The large-scale program of this festival is very rich and diverse.
At the end of summer an amazing festival is held in Jelsa. It is dedicated to the main national drink, wine. Participants of the festival can taste the best local wines and visit one of the colorful fairs. One of the main features of the local cuisine is an abundance of interesting seafood dishes; this feature of the local culture is also reflected in national holidays.
