Preparing your trip to Victoria: advices & hints - things to do and to obey

Capuchin House 1. Planning a journey to the island of Mahe tourists should necessarily be backed up with sun protecting means as getting a sun burn is possible even in the cloudy weather during a usual city exploration tour. Beach leisure should better be planned in the first part of the day when the sun is not as aggressive as in the day time.
2. Local stores and markets accept Euro and USD. Currency should better be exchanged in specialized exchange offices which are located close to the city center and scattered around large shopping centers and stores. The currency exchange offices charge a lower transaction fee than hotels do.
3. Tourists looking to visiting scenic areas of the island and to spending much time in the open air should have some insect protection means. These can be bought in advance or in any local stores. The cost for incest protective means is rather low.
4. To rent a car one will need a standard set of documents including passport and international driving license. Clients under 21 may be denied in service rendering. Drivers should keep in mind that local folks do not strictly keep to the road traffic regulations. The quality of roadways is rather poor that is why only experienced drivers are recommended to rent a car on the island.
5. City center is better be explored on foot as all the significant landmarks and sights of the Mahe island are concentrated in a small quarter not more than 1.5km in length. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
6. Attending group tours is much more profitable than touring alone as the gap in cost will be sufficient. Tourists visiting the island for the first time should start the exploration of Mahe from visiting a local tourist information office to get all the necessary information on landmarks and cultural events.
7. Bathing is allowed only on specially equipped beaches. Those seeking for privacy and serenity and tending to wild areas should keep to all safety rules. Special footwear is a must for bathing as there are many sea urchins on the shore as well as sharp corals.
8. Tourists should better opt for super markets to buy some foods as the stores offers sufficiently lower prices than local markets do. However the markets offer a vaster choice of goods. Bargaining is welcome on the market place but one should not reckon upon large discounts.
9. The only means of public transport of the island is a bus. A cost of a trip will be about 0.5Euro. However local buses run not to every district of the island. For reaching remote areas tourists will need to take taxi or a special tourist bus.
