The Serengeti National Park is the oldest and most widely-known national park in the country. Here visitors can see animals in their natural habitat. The park is widely known because thousands of animals migrate there every year. In the Serengeti Park it’s possible to see around six million hooves, 300 thousand Thomson’s gazelle and approximately 200 thousand zebras.
The Ngorongoro Crater, the height of walls of which reaches 610 metres, is an absolutely marvelous place, where it’s possible to see nearly all animals found in East Africa. The Selous Game Reserve, which is added in the list of protected sites by UNESCO, is another great destination for safari. On an area of 50,000 sq. kilometres it’s possible to see elephants, cheetahs, wild dogs, black rhinos, crocodiles and other wild animals. This is the 2nd largest game reserve in Africa. The next park, Katavi National Park, is one of the smallest and more remote parks in Tanzania. It’s the best place to see mammals as the highest density of mammals per square kilometre in Tanzania is in Katavi. As the park is not well-known, it is visited only by a few hundred tourists a year, compared with around 2 million visitors in Serengeti.
It’s simply impossible to fail to visit Kilimanjaro National Park during your stay in Tanzania. The park is located not far away from Moshi and covers Mount Kilimanjaro and surrounding area. The mount with its height of 5,895 metres is the highest peak in Africa. It is also known as the highest “free-standing” mountain in the world and one of the most easily walkable mountains. If mountains are not your cup of tea, visit Lake Tanganyika, the longest and the 2nd deepest lake in the world. The majority of culture landmarks are located in Dar es Salaam, the biggest city and the former capital of the country.
