Luanda has preserved interesting historical monuments, and one of the main symbols of the capital is the ancient Fortress of Sao Miguel. Despite its great significance, it was decided to close the church at the end of the 19th century. Over the years of its existence, the temple fell into disrepair. The reconstruction began in 1897, the cathedral became available for visitors only three years later. It has remained unchanged since the early 20th century. Inside the building, one can see valuable religious artifacts, admire the preserved wooden elements and artistic decorations of the temple.

The most visited cultural institution of the capital is the Museum of Natural History. It keeps a multifaceted collection of exhibits, from unique archaeological and historical artifacts to natural science exhibits of all possible subjects. During your visit to the museum, you can find out which historical stages the state had to go through on its way to development. A significant part of the exhibits is devoted to the period of the colonization of Angola. Visitors with children would rather prefer the natural science section where they can see rare geological elements, as well as learn a lot of interesting facts about the features of the Angolan flora and fauna.

No less interesting is the Museum Dundo dedicated to the country's ethnographic peculiarities. Here visitors can find out which tribes inhabited the territory of present Angola in the pre-colonial period. The museum has a collection of unique historical and ethnographic exhibits. Hand-made masks and other ritual accessories, old traditional costumes and musical instruments, household items and handicrafts are just a part of all the exhibits displayed in the museum.

While walking around the city, one can admire many beautiful colonial buildings. Thanks to the preserved historic architecture, some of the streets in Luanda were officially recognized as national heritage sites. One of the most remarkable colonial buildings is the Palacio de Ferro Palace. Many tourists recognize it by the picturesque rich-yellow facade. It was built more than 300 years ago and has not changed much during this period. It has managed to preserve graceful arcades and wooden decoration elements. The palace is closed for visitors so guests of the capital can only admire it from the outside.

Not far from the old fort is another important religious monument - the temple of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré. It was built in 1664 at the initiative of local fishermen who considered Madonna to be their main patroness. Even today, the wonderful temple continues to be one of the most revered places for townspeople. Every year, an interesting holiday is organized in honor of the patron saint. The historic church has retained its skillful interior decoration, which was worked on by the best local and Portuguese artists. The main treasure of this temple is the old Holy Madonna statue, which was moved here immediately after the opening of the church.
