War Memorial Museum, Auckland

» The Auckland War Memorial Museum is located in a big plain building on a green hill that was the top of a volcano once. » Its history started in 1852. In 1869, the museum was supervised by the University of Auckland. Only in 1929, the museum moved to the building that had been built specifically for it.
» Its exhibits tell not only about the military history of New Zealand, but also about ethnographic artifacts of Maori. Here, you can also see a tyrannosaur’s skeleton an old canoe that is 25 m long and was made of a solid mahogany trunk.
» Remarkably, soldiers of Auckland participated in both First and Second World Wars. In the halls dedicated to military history, you can see the names of the dead.
