Santa Margarida is probably one of the most beautiful and most visible volcanic crater in the world. The crater is located in the picturesque district of La Garrocha. This majestic crater enchants with its impressive size. The height of its slopes reaches 682 meters, and the length of the perimeter is about 2,000 meters. In the middle of the crater, whose slopes are covered with lush brushwood, is the unique sight - St. Margaret Church.

In 1428 there was a strong earthquake in Catalonia, which completely destroyed the building of the old church. The church was rebuilt only in 1865 and remains unchanging ever since. Many legends and folk beliefs are connected with the strange church. Until now it is unknown who built the first little house in the Vulkankrater. In the course of the reconstruction the scientists have determined that the first hut was built in the crater about 2,000 years ago.

In the surroundings of the volcano is a lot of excellent tourist trails with signposting. On some of them you can also drive by car. In 1982, La Garrocha district was declared a nature reserve, so the tourists visiting it should observe some important rules. There are special places for tents and picnics on the territory of the nature reserve. The tourists, who like to bring the natural souvenirs (eg pebbles and plants) from the picturesque regions back home, is recommended to do without this tradition.
