Ludhiana is one of the most densely populated cities in India. Over the past 10 years, the number of their population has increased more than twice, and is now about 3.5 million people. Ludhiana is one of the largest industrial centers in India, although there are no really large establishments here. The number of small industrial centers is simply huge. There is probably no type of product which is not produced here.
Clothing, household equipment, car spare parts, sewing machine, industrial equipment, foodstuffs - this is the short list of goods produced by local companies. It must be noted that Ludhiana is a true top rider of Asia according to the bicycles manufacturing level. Every year more than 10 million bicycles are produced in the city.
The enormous number of farms and even more impressive number of rubbish heaps, of which the city is literally surrounded, have damaged their ecology in just a few years. The concentration of pollutants reaches 251 points today in Ludhiana. Inhalation of air in the city is as harmful as smoking. Despite the serious threat of the ecological disaster, the number of industrial centers in Ludhiana is constantly increasing. Although, with regard to the apparent over-population of the city, the factories lack labor.
