Old Delhi has the history of more than 2500 years and has always played an important strategic and military role. For centuries it served as the center of the Mughal Empire. The two main places in the city were the Chandni Chowk Bazaar and the Jama Masijid (which, by the way, even now remains the biggest mosque in the country). At first sight Old Delhi can seem to be very noisy and anxious, but if to turn down to the ant-hill of the narrow streets and leave beside the ever rushing rickshaws and hurrying people, you'll find yourself in a quiet and calm place with fantastic views on the city. The Old Red Fort is really worth visiting. Situated on the hill with an air of importance it watches over the city. Its beautiful minarets can be well seen from many places downwards. Unfortunately, time damaged it a lot, but the special spirit of history will never be destroyed. So you can have a walk along its ruins and think about past, future and present days.
If to go to the south of the city, you'll have a n opportunity to look at the Qutub Minar complex and the tomb of Humayun.
