Eixample area. If you go upward from the very centre of Barcelona, Plaza Catalunya, you will find yourself in Eixample area. This district was built in the art nouveau style. Tourists will surely like the atmosphere of numerous posh shops, various cafes, bars and restaurants. We strongly advise you to go along beautiful and fascinating Paseo de Gracia Street, where, among a great number of monuments, you can find several works by Gaudi. If you turn to the left from Diagonal Avenue and make a short walk, you'll get to Plaza de Frances Macia. In order to come back from that place, you simply need to cross the road, turn right and go downward Rambla de Catalunya Boulevard. This way you’ll reach Plaza Catalunya. On average, such a walk takes about half a day, but it mostly depends on speed, physical condition and your budget.

Gothic Quarter, Raval Quarter and boulevard de Ramblas. If you go downward from Plaza Catalunya, you'll reach the ancient gothic Barcelona. One of the most famous boulevards in Europe – boulevard de Ramblas – will be on your right side. Tourists are also recommended to visit Raval Quarter with its Museum of Modern Art. Gothic Quarter with its marvellous Barcelona Cathedral will be located on your left. Without visiting this ancient part of the city your impression of Barcelona would be incomplete. This is the place where you can enjoy a slow walk across numerous narrow streets of the city, do some shopping and be delighted with a special international atmosphere of this place. This is the place where one can hear various languages and dialects not only of local people, but also of tourists. This special atmosphere helps to understand the city better, as well as its past and future. If you visit Boulevard de Ramblas, we strongly recommend visiting the enormous shopping centre of Maremagnum. The centre is home to a great number of restaurants, shops, cafes and clubs. Moreover, this is a good place for entertainment - the complex contains several movie theatres, an aquarium and an IMAX theatre.
