Travel Guide to Goteborg, Sweden

Gothenburg is located on the west coast of Sweden which is washed by the North Sea. The city was founded by order of Gustav II Adolf in 1621. Initially this was a large industrial port in the mouth of the Gota River. Currently the population of the city reaches 500 thousand of people, and over 700 thousand together with neighbor suburbs. This makes Gothenburg the second largest city of Sweden.
Stockholm and Gothenburg are connected by a manmade channel finished in 1832. Both cities are also connected through a system of railway and air routes. There is an unofficial competition between these two cities for the right to be called the capital of Sweden – a formal and an informal one. Gothenburg is a very beautiful city that is known by its everlasting cozy and joyful atmosphere, wide choice of beaches, entertaining museums, magnificent parks and comfortable cafes. The main street of the city, Avenue, is the location of small shops with interesting goods and souvenirs. Gothenburg is also famous for Liseberg – one of the largest entertainment parks in whole Scandinavia.
The architecture of the city traditionally attracts visitors by its strict geometric lines. This style is traditionally lent from Holland. Business people frequently visit Gothenburg because here are conducted multiple exhibitions and fair trades; tourists visit this city to enjoy crystal clear air, magnificent lakes, woods and picturesque archipelago. There are also some ruins left from the old city. You will find here the remains of Vallgrove and Rosendafskanolen fosses, and a big port channel Stora Hamnkanalen with 20 bridges that once have been located around the Old City.
