The air in Dzerzhinsk has the increased concentration of toxic pollutants that threaten the locals. Even more than 50 years ago, this city was the huge center of the chemical industry. Dzerzhinsk has maintained this important industrial status to this day. In Dzerzhinsk not only household chemicals, but also chemical weapons are produced. The slowly decomposing wastes add irreparable damage to the soil and make it absolutely sterile. Some of the toxins evaporate into the air. The landfill was organized here forty years ago and has been burning almost continuously since the 1990s. Thanks to the cooperation of the Russian ecologists, it has managed to extinguish the landfill a few years ago.
