Suyumbike Tower, Russia

From series “Falling towers and buildings”
Year: 17 century. Height: 58 m.

The amazing Söyembikä Tower is located in Kazan. Its tilt is also visually noticeable. The exact date of construction of this tower is unknown. Most historians believe that it was built at the turn of the 17th-18th centuries. Recent archaeological research has shown that the very first building was built in this place in the middle of the 16th century. The tower is located on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin. Initially, it served as a watchtower.

Suyumbike Tower, Russia The foundation for it was constructed based on oak piles. The main building material for the construction of the tower was brick and lime mortar. The tower is 58 meters high. Its tilt from the vertical is 1.98 meters. Experts do not consider such a significant indicator critical, even though it can frighten many uninformed people. No work was carried out to strengthen the foundation of the watchtower.

Many beautiful legends are associated with the ancient tower. It has the name of the Tatar Queen Syuyumbike today. According to one legend, the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible expressed a desire to marry the Queen after the capture of Kazan. He promised to punish the entire Tatar people if she refused. The Queen accepted the proposal. She wanted to save her people. But she ordered Ivan the Terrible to build a high tower in seven days. The Queen's wish was fulfilled. She climbed to the top of the tower when it was completed. The Queen threw herself on the ground. According to another legend, the treasures are kept in the tower. Chronicles of the Kazan khanate are among them. But researchers have not been able to find them. Next - Two Towers of Bologna

Top destination around Suyumbike Tower - Kazan

There are excellent observation platforms on the territory of the Kremlin, from which a very picturesque view of the banks of the Volga opens, especially in the place where Kazanka flows into it. Here is an island on which a monument to Russian soldiers, who died during the capture of Kazan, was built. Previously, the monument was called "The Temple of Holy Face of Christ the Savior". Bauman Street, which is secretly called "Kazansky Arbat", is located in the center of the city, among its main decorations, the Epiphany Cathedral, in which Feodor Chaliapin was christened. The bizarre bell tower of the cathedral is considered the most interesting decoration of the historic street, to which leads six bridges, which cross over the Bulaq canal. Each of the bridges not only has its own name, but also its own history. Despite the fact that the bridges are already several centuries old, they are perfectly preserved and manage their destination.

If you go to one of the old lanes from Bauman Street, you can go to Kazan University; it is one of the largest educational centers in Russia. In addition to the university itself, the most beautiful buildings of the National Museum, the National Library and the Alexandrovsky Passage are located in this area. In Kazan, there are many interesting places and attractions; there are chic architectural monuments, traces of ancient majestic cities, monasteries and mosques. To see at least half of the outstanding sights of the city, you need to visit here more than once.
