In the historic area of Mestre is the Church of St. Lorenz. It was built in the 17th century and perfectly preserved to our days. Year after year, the locals restored the church, now it is a real warehouse of religious artifacts. The age of all the relics represented within the walls of the church is more than a hundred years. The very design of the church is of great historical and artistic value.
On one of the central streets of the city is the historic theater Toniolo, whose building also represents a huge architectural value. Now the theater holds both classical and new productions. Decoration of past years preserved in the theater gives it its special atmosphere.
During a walk through the historic streets, you can see many unique monuments of architecture; one of the most unusual is the Palazzo da Re. It combines a variety of architectural styles. The palace is indebted to numerous reconstructions for its unique appearance. Nearby is the beautiful Palazzo Podestarile, which is famous for its luxurious decoration. This historic monument belongs to the city administration currently.
Rest in Mestre will be incomplete without visiting local restaurants, many of which also have long acquired the status of outstanding attractions. The most famous restaurant is Da Tura. It specializes in the preparation of national dishes and delicacies. Some culinary masterpieces that guests of this restaurant can taste, will not be available, even in the most prestigious restaurants in Venice.
