In terms of the significance as a major tourist center on the West Coast of Turkey, Marmaris competes with Kusadasi. Although Marmaris is not as rich in historical sights as Kusadasi, it can boast of more vivid natural surroundings. The name is probably derived from the Turkish saying 'mimari as', which stands for 'hang the architect'. This may be due to the dreary-looking high-rise apartment buildings, bearing zero aesthetic value. You can get to Marmaris by air, landing in Dalaman airport.
