Marmaris is a very convenient springboard for excursion trips, as you can get to many interesting places from here. Take a boat and pay a visit to Günlük and Turunc. There you will find lots of various hotels and dining places.
The city is placed at a small bay, and there is a narrow strait connecting it to the open sea, which is not visible from this point. If you stand face to the sea, you may feel like you are standing on the shore of a small lake. There are two quite sizable marinas, where warships moored during WWII.
It is easy to get to Marmaris from the Island of Rhodes by aid of fast ferries that work on a daily basis, and it takes about an hour to get there. There is a so called free shuttle service controlled by the Local Tourism Board, and they can take you to and around the town, thus encouraging tourists to come back another day.
