Palais des Festivals occupies an honorable place among the sights of the city. The wonderful palace was opened in April 1998. Nowadays this beautiful building is home to cultural institutions – an opera theater and a concert hall. Palais des Festivals can accommodate up to two and a half thousand visitors at a time. We have the full right to call the palace the most ambitious institution of its kind in Germany. If you want to visit the family homes of notable people, move your feet to the house-museum of Johannes Brahms, a famous German composer. Brahms lived in the city for just nine years. Despite the fact that the internationally famous composer had homes in other German cities, the apartment in Baden-Baden is considered his family house. Every two years the museum organizes a holiday dedicated to the memory of the great composer.
A walk on one of the oldest streets of the city, Sophienstrasse, will surely leave lots of positive memories and impressions. This is simply a perfect place to see beautiful old mansions, ancient Roman baths and cozy alleys with benches and gazebos. The first floors of many homes have been turned into open air restaurants and cafes, so you can pleasantly combine the inspection of architectural attractions with the degustation of the national dishes. Stiftskirche church is a well-known religious landmark of Baden-Baden. The history of this beautiful religious attraction exceeds several hundred years. The first building on the place of the original church was built yet in the early medieval period. That was a modest monastery church, which had been built in accordance with the best traditions of the Romanesque style. Steadily the church was supplemented by new buildings, and in the 18th century not even a trace remained from the original design of the first church. The temple, which can be seen today, is a magnificent example of the late Gothic style. The entrance to the shrine is decorated with a statue of Ludwig Wilhelm.
