Active vacation in Panama - things to do, entertainment and nightlife

Panama is rich in attractions, which cannot all be seen in one trip. The country’s museums allow you to touch its history and better understand the culture. In Panama City you will find the ruins of the burned-down 17th century cathedral “El Arco Chato”. The preserved walls of the once magnificent building are still striking in their grandeur. Those who feel depressed while looking at ruins are encouraged to visit the snow-white Catholic Church in Nate, built in the early 16th century. It is believed that this is the oldest functioning church in all of America. Inside the building is no less beautiful. The high ceiling made of mahogany and the skillfully created statues of saints produce in the place an air of solemnity.
1. Tourists in Panama should be aware of the high level of crime in the country. It is better to generally avoid deserted places. Most importantly you …

On the island of Taboga is the St. Peter’s Church. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, the church still accepts parishioners. It totally is deserving of the love it receives from locals and tourists alike, thanks to not just the modest beauty and charm of its architecture and interior, but also the beautiful statues of angels and saints. The Cathedral of John the Baptist in Chitre is definitely worth visiting by both religious and non-believing tourists. This is the main attraction of the city, known for its beautiful stained glass windows. No less impressive are the grandiose dimensions of the room and large paintings on the walls.
In Panama City there is a huge Cathedral, an impressive building built in the late 18th century. Inside is a magnificent altar. The building is also filled with works of art. Tired of the silence of the churches, it is best to go to the “Latin American Miami” – the modern part of the capital of Panama, where the unusual skyscraper called “The Screw” soars. This is a glass tower with an extraordinary shape, as if twisting around itself, and its numerous windows beautifully reflect the sky, turning its blue color into emerald. One of the pages of Panama’s history is captured in the exhibits of the Metropolitan Panama Inter-Ocean Canal Museum. The building was built in the late 19th century and became a museum in the 90s of the 20th century. Prior to that, it contained the headquarters of the builders of the channel and post office. The history of the Panama Canal, connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean, is told in great detail from the very beginning to the end in photographs, videos and other documents. Another remarkable museum in Panama City is the modern “Biomuseo”, which provides information about the plants and animals of the country. Many exhibits give visitors a complete picture of the nature of Panama. There are as well educational films on the problem of ecology in the museum.
The Anton Valley Historical and Cultural Museum is located in El Valle de Anton. It is interesting, for its rich collection of local art and other pre-colonial era items. Among the exhibits are statues, paintings, tools, stones with rock paintings, ancient pots and much more. Those who prefer modern art should visit the “Weil Art Gallery” in Panama City, where works by local artists and sculptors are exhibited. The Sitio Barriles Archaeological Museum in Volcan is a pleasant place in a garden full of exotic birds. In the 20s of the last century, stone and clay artifacts were found here, which marked the beginning of large excavations and incredible discoveries. In ancient times, a city was located here. Today, statues, stones, pots, urns with the remains of the departed, and other exhibits remind guests of the museum of how even what seems solid and eternal goes into oblivion. The Plastic Bottle Castle in Bocas must be visited by every guest of Panama. This is a successful project of one person who in a bid to remind people of the need to recycle plastic built a small castle, which has a bathroom, a bar and a king-size bed, using plastic bottles.
Panama skyline Panama Viejo, or Old Panama, is an ancient part of Panama City. The first stone was laid here in the early 16th century by the Spaniards. In the 17th century, the city was however abandoned after the attack of pirates. This is a great place for history lovers and simply abandoned places lovers, where buildings lying in ruins have long been overgrown with grass. Panama Viejo is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. On the Caribbean coast of Panama is situated Portobelo, yet another place worth visiting. It is a port city where trading activities were conducted between Spain and Latin America. Pirates attacked the city more than once, and at the end of the 19th century there was a strong earthquake here. Portobelo was rebuilt at the end of the 90s of the last century, but the ruins of the most beautiful buildings still remains.
