Lenght: 80 km. Height: 220 meters.
Among the unique natural attractions of Russia, Lena Pillars were especially highlighted. They represent a unique geological formation, which has been formed on the banks of the Lena River. Vertically stretched rocks stretch along the bank of the river for many kilometers, the height of some rock formations reaches 220 meters. According to scientists, the formation of the Pillars began more than 400 thousand years ago. The rocks from which the pillars consist are formed much earlier, about 500 million years ago.
Nowadays, Lena Pillars are not just an inimitable natural site, but a large nature reserve, which was founded in 1994. During an excursion to the reserve you can see many more amazing natural and archaeological sites. Of great interest are sand deserts, as well as the archaeological area of Deering-Yuryakh, where a large site of an ancient man has been discovered. As for the Pillars themselves, the length of the formation is about 80 km. There are rock formations in a very inaccessible area, so their discovery was held relatively recently - in the 17th century. Even today a trip to the reserve will take several days. The starting point of all routes starts in the city of Yakutsk. From here, travellers are offered to follow the river's stream to one of the settlements near the reserve, many tours here are conducted by local people.
