Some of the oldest mentions of Adelboden date back to the 13th century. At that time, local people were mostly called “people of the forest”. It was impossible to get to the village in winter because the only road was along the Engstligen River. Only when the bridge across the river was finally constructed, it became possible to reach Adelboden not only in summer but also in winter. The first hotel opened in the area in the 19th century. 1903 was an important year for Adelboden because the village hosted skiing competitions. The first ski lift was built much later, in the 30s of the 20th century. Slowly, Adelboden turned into a popular ski resort that regularly hosts World Cup competitions.

The total length of ski trails is 180 kilometers. Visitors do not need to worry about the quality of these trails. Their owners take care of the trails and make sure that they are in line with international standards. This charming village has become a traditional part of the alpine ski World Cup. Local snow parks are very comfortable and suitable for beginners and intermediate players. However, fans of extreme sports will also find suitable areas where they can have fun.
