The Yellowstone National Park is home to the most colorful and unbelievably impressive site in the United States, and is home to the Grand Prismatic Spring (the Great Prism Source). This curious natural sight was opened in 1839. The huge spring, whose water was shimmering with all the rainbow colors, was discovered by American researchers.
The incredible shape of the Great Prism Source is due to the activity of the pigmented bacteria, which mainly live on their edges. At the center of the spring the water is usually bright blue because of the high mineral concentration. On the banks, the water can be of different colors - from green to ocher.
The color of water on the banks of the spring varies according to the season. In the summer, the coast of the prism source is usually orange-red. The tourists who visit this strange natural sight in winter will see the landscape with the emerald green springs. Grand Prismatic Spring is the third largest source in the world, whose length is 91 meters, and width - 75 meters. The source is quite deep, its maximum depth is about 49 meters.
