The most interesting quarry, from the tourist point of view, is located in Grear Britain, South Wales. Big Pit – a huge quarry – is a result of extensive developments in coal production. By the year 1980 the field has run out and was closed. Already three years later, it was converted into amazing National Coal Museum.
Nowaday tourists have an opportunity to stroll around the sites, make an underground tour and learn about miners’ work and life. The main guides are miners themselves, so an informative and exciting holiday is guaranteed.
Visitors are taken down the deep mineshaft in the elevator to depth of 90 meters. Miners caps are a must underground. Old workshops, a forge and even miners baths are open for everyone to see. A vast museum comlex which was formed in the vicinity of Big Pit quarry, includes an iron foundry building. Within its walls is a collection of unique items, including the stove of the 18th century and tools, whose age is more than one hundred years.
