Guests of Keflavik will have a chance to taste a lot of unusual dishes that have long become regular to locals. Pay special attention to fish dishes, which have been the basis of the local cuisine for many years. Local restaurants serve an original dish of cod tongues called “Gellur”. Some chefs simply boil them to serve with a vegetable garnish; sometimes Gellur is baked. In the latter case, it is distinguished by a more refined presentation and a richer taste.
"Lundi" is a very interesting dish made from puffin meat - this bird species inhabits Icelandic islands. There are so many birds here that for locals their meat has long ceased to be a delicacy, while in some regions of the world puffins are considered very rare. The meat of these birds is quite tough and has a rich red color that does not change even after cooking. To make it more tender and juicy, it is boiled in a milk sauce, and in some restaurants, you can try the smoked meat.

Among meat dishes, it's also worth highlighting "Hangikot" - smoked lamb. Only natural birch wood is used for smoking, so the taste and aroma of the meat is very rich here. Before serving, the smoked meat is necessarily boiled to be served with a side dish of mashed potatoes or young green peas.
