The incredible archaeological discovery around Kotelnich was followed by another sensation. A large area with remains of a dinosaur was found in the city of Kirov, on Fileysk outcrop. The first excavations began only a few years ago, when scientists found more than 50 pareiasaur bones. As it turned out later, they all belonged to a single individual. That's how another important location of the ancient reptiles has appeared in Kirov region.
As the study of the archaeological area has just begun, scientists don't exclude that it's rich in other valuable artifacts. Kirov regularly hosts interesting presentations and exhibitions devoted to the paleontological research. Guests of the city have an opportunity not only to witness the most valuable archaeological finds, but also to get acquainted with amazing thematic collections of photographs and illustrations.
A pareiasaur, whose skeleton was found on Fileysk outcrop, is often called an ancient behemoth. This massive lizard could be 2.5 meters long, it was a very powerful and clumsy animal. A significant part of pareiasaur’s life went by the water. An exterior of an ancient lizard was also very similar to the well-known modern animal. One of the main secrets of a unique deposit is its special geological structure. Dinosaur’s remains have been perfectly preserved in a layer of red clay that covers the shore of the Vyatka river. Each year after the flood, ancient layers of soil expose, and hundreds of researchers rush to the shore to find the next treasure of antiquity.
