Neue Leuchtturm Lighthouse, Germany

From series “Top 15 Most Fascinating Lighthouses”
Year: 1856. Height: 33 m.

People who travel to Bavarian town Lindau have to walk near the harbour and to adore with the lighthouse "Neue Leuchtturm". The lighthouse stays alone on the Boden See. That's why it became the symbol of Lindau town. From German "Neue Leuchtturm" translates as the "New lighthouse". The tower has one peculiarity. It is decorated with the clock. This decoration is quite rarely used outside the lighthouses. The 33 meters long lighthouse hasn't been working for a long period of time. Notwithstanding that, it is still the landmark on which people pay a lot of attention.

Neue Leuchtturm Lighthouse, Germany Nowadays it is possible to visit the tower whenever you want, except nights of course. On the ground floor has placed an outstanding souvenir shop. The top of the tower was equipped with a wonderful sightseeing platform with a marvellous view of the harbour. The lighthouse "Neue Leuchtturm" is also appealing to the tourists because its whole interior was saved. Inside the tower all decorations are made from the wood. The spiral staircase that is going to the sightseeing platform is also wooden.

The walls are decorated with outstanding handmade drawings. They tell the visitors a story of seafaring development on the Boden See. Earlier, in the 12th century, there was another lighthouse, which was quite small. In the middle of the 19th century it was decided to destroy the old lighthouse and to build the new one – Neue Leuchtturm. It has been working since 1856. Time passed, technologies had been developed and fire lightning was placed by electrician lightning. In 1936 that happened with the lighthouse and in the 1990s its systems were all automatized. Last time the lighthouse isn’t used regularly, it works only in the worst weather conditions. Next - Torre de Hercules
