Rafael Hernandez Airport serves as both a civilian and military airport of Puerto Rico. It is named after the outstanding Puerto Rican composer. It is the second largest international airport in Puerto Rico. The airport is located on the west coast of the country. It services more than 500,000 passengers per year. The airport serves as a Coast Guard Air Station. The history of its creation dates back to 1939. Originally, the airport was the United States Air Force Base. Since 1973, it has been operating as a civilian airport. It consists of one runway, a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. The military zone of the airport is based in its northern part.
