The Grand Palace and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The Grand Palace is something like a small town within the city. The building of the palace was started in 1782, when Bangkok became the 4th capital of Thailand. Despite the fact, that the King doesn't live in this palace anymore and the palace is used only on special occasions, it still remains a symbolic heart of Bangkok. The territory of the Grand Palace is the location of Wat Phra Kaeo Temple. This Temple stores a great sacred object - the Emerald Buddha. The 75-santimeter statue of Buddha is made from jade, and the age of the statue is approximately 500 years. Three times a year during a solemn ceremony, in which the king of Thailand takes part, the dress of Buddha is changed. Wat Phra Kaeo is the main royal chapel and the most sacred temple in Thailand.

Tourists will also see numerous well-crafted mythological sculptures near Wat Phra Kaeo. The temple consists of several buildings, all of which are very beautiful, that's why it is nearly impossible to decide, which one has the best decoration. All of them are embellished with colourful tiles, gold and mirrors. Visitors will be also able to see Angkor Wat. This temple was built in the period, when a large part of Thailand belonged to the Khmer. The audience hall is the location of a fabulous nacreous throne. Inner premises of Wat Phra Kaeo are decorated with amusing mural paintings, which depict various stories from Buddha's life. It's forbidden to enter the temple with bare knees or shoulders.
