On one of the historic streets in Saarbrücken is located Castle church built in the 15th century. It is an outstanding sample of Gothic architecture. Like many other historic buildings in the city, it was badly damaged during the Second World War. However, the church was restored in full accordance with the original blueprints. It's amazing, but in wartime the most beautiful stained-glass windows remained untouched. Their age is more than 400 years.
Nearby, the Town Hall of St. Johann is situated. Its construction took place in the late 19th century and lasted three years. The town hall was created according to the project of the famous architect Georg von Hauberisser. One of its main features is a tall tower. It rises up to an altitude of 54 meters and is visible from many city streets. Despite the fact that the town hall was built in the 19th century, it is a bright monument in Gothic style.
An important point of tour programs around the city is the ancient Alte Brücke. It is one of the oldest bridges of Saarbrucken. The bridge was created in the middle of the 16th century to connect two rapidly expanding urban areas. Originally, it numbered 14 arches. During the war years, six of them were destroyed. After the war, the bridge was reconstructed. At present, it is open to pedestrians and is used for legitimate purposes. It is best to admire the ancient construction at night, when it is decorated with spectacular illumination.
