It’s worth to begin a tour around historical heritage of Uppsala with the legendary medieval Slottet Castle. It was built in the mid16th century; during its long history, fascinating fortifications have witnessed important historical events. Currently, the part of the castle houses an art museum with a collection of paintings of the first half of the 20th century. Another part of the historic buildings is allotted to the city administration.
There is an interesting religious attraction in the city - the beautiful Skattkammaren Cathedral. Its construction has begun in 1260 and ended only in the early 15th century. The beautiful cathedral is one of the oldest religious buildings of the country. On the territory of the cathedral there are tombs of prominent historical figures and representatives of royal families. The golden tomb of St. Eric attracts special interest of tourists. One of the towers of the cathedral is converted into a museum, which holds an interesting collection of national costumes and decorations.
