The major attraction of the island is El Museo Canario founded in 1879. It is located in a beautiful historic building. Its spacious rooms host priceless collection of archaeological findings that are worth to be seen during an excursion. In addition to the archaeological artifacts, there is a collection of old photographs, books, archival documents, and objects of art in the museum.
The beautiful square Plaza-de-Santa-Ana, next to which Santa Ana Cathedral is situated, is considered the religious center of the city. The spectacular 14th-century building features traditional Gothic style. In the early 19th century, the cathedral was rebuilt, so today it is decorated with a spectacular neo-classical facade. Among other architectural constructions situated close to this area, City Hall and Palacio Episcopal should be mentioned. The latest was built in the early 16th century.
