Travelers who enjoy natural attractions would like to visit the Garajonay National Park in Spain. It is located on La Gomera Island, which is part of the Canary Islands. The park has the same name with the rock that is the highest point of the island. The area of the national park is 40 square km. The significant part of the territory is covered by a laurel subtropical forest.
Evergreen laurel trees can reach a height of 40 meters. According to the researchers, once such forests covered a significant part of modern Europe, but today they are preserved only in the Canary Islands, the Azores and Madeira. In addition, the Garajonay National Park features a lot of endemic plants. The main inhabitants of the rainforest are birds and bats.
The national park has lots of amazing hiking trails; however, some areas of the park are closed to tourists. The most attractive and popular entertainment for the park guests is still climbing the Garajonay mountain, which is nothing but an ancient extinct volcano. The mountain offers a simply great view of the island; evergreen forests and the coast can be admired in all their glory. The year-round ecological museum exhibition that is devoted to the peculiarities of the ecosystem of the La Gomera island, operates in the park. Another great place to visit is the Botanical Garden.
