Charlottenburg Palace, Germany

From series “Rococo Architecture – Famous Monuments”
Year: 1699.

The beautiful Charlottenburg Palace is located on the territory of the district of the same name in Berlin. It was built by the order of Queen Sophia Charlotte in 1699. The Queen was the wife of Frederick I. The palace was originally called Lietzenburg. It was renamed Charlottenburg by order of the king after the Queen died. The palace was supplemented with new buildings for many years after its foundation. It gradually turned into a fairly large-scale structure. It is one of Berlin's most recognizable landmarks today thanks to its 48-meter-high dome.

Charlottenburg Palace, Germany The old palace is also available for visiting. It will not be enough for a whole day to see all its sights. The tour starts with a visit to the Ceremonial Hall. It is one of the largest rooms. Beautiful old bas-reliefs and decorations from the early 18th century are preserved in this high-vaulted hall. The Porcelain Room is no less interesting. A rich collection of ancient Chinese porcelain is stored in it.

Visitors to the palace can also take a look at the old greenhouse. It was founded in 1709. The greenhouse was badly damaged during the Second World War. But it was quickly restored. The greenhouse has been used for music concerts and various special events since its opening. A beautiful summer house is also preserved on the territory of a large-scale palace. It's called the Schinkel Pavilion. It has the name of its founder. This is the outstanding architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. A small art museum is open in a luxurious pavilion today. Its collection includes paintings and sketches by famous artists of the early 19th century. Next - Asam Church
