Craigievar Castle is placed on the territory of Aberdeenshire. It is one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland. The seven-stored castle was finished in 1626, originally it was built as a residence of Sempill family. The great castle with marvellous towers and façade is painted in a light rose colour. This is a good example of baronial Scottish style. Sempill family was owners of this castle until 1963 and then it came under the responsibility of the National Trust for Scotland.
Craigievar Castle is a unique castle because there weren’t held many battles. 400-year-old castle has saved its unique elements of decoration. During the excursion, visitors can see a Great Hall that earlier was used for solemn events. If tourists look at the balconies for the musicians they will see numerous secret ways and staircases.
Nowadays the castle has a great collection of historical artefacts: furniture of the 17th-18th centuries and works of art. During the First World War, the castle was used for hospital needs. Unfortunately, a lot of valuable things were lost. The castle is surrounded by an old garden. It is a nice place for walks. There you can see a hundred years trees and, in the summertime, people can have a picnic or become a part of the open-air event. Excursions are organized only in summer.
