Many shops work every day except Sunday. Commonly they are open form 10am till 8pm. A lunch break is possible within the day. Usually it lasts not more than two hours. Large supermarkets and shopping centers work seven days a week without lunch breaks.
Despite the fact that tips are not customary, a taxi driver, a waiter in the restaurant should be cash rewarded. A 5 – 10% will be quite enough.
“Telefonica” street call boxes offer the optimum rates for intercity calls. The call boxes accept coins and special plastic cards named “tarjetas telefonicas”. These can be bought in all post offices and news stalls. One should avoid calling from a hotel as the rates for calls will be twice higher than usual ones.
Purchases should be paid in national currency which can be exchanged in one of the banks or private currency exchange offices. Expert travelers claim that the most profitable rates for currency exchange are at home as local financial institutions offer considerably lower rates.
